What’s the difference between performance coaching and counseling?

Coaching is intended for highly motivated, purpose-driven, enthusiastic, well-adjusted people who have a desire and will to achieve extraordinary accomplishments. Coaching clients are uniquely focused on being able to perform at the highest level possible despite the situation and circumstances that they find themselves. Instead of giving advice or making decisions for clients, coaches ask questions, provide information, and give feedback to help clients make their own choices, develop skills, and make progress toward their goals.

Counseling is intended for people who are struggling with more serious mental health conditions. Miller Professional Counseling, P.C., d/b/a Matt Miller Coaching (MMC), defines a “serious mental health condition” as when a client meets the diagnostic criteria for a DSM-5 Diagnosis.
